DESCRIPTION
An External spring electrode (sometimes called a rolling spring, spring ring, or pipeline coil electrode) is a key accessory for high-voltage holiday detectors. Its design—a tightly wound, conductive spring typically made from stainless steel—allows the electrode to wrap around the external surface of coated pipes or cylindrical structures. As the detector is operated, the spring electrode "rolls" or moves along the pipe, maintaining continuous, intimate contact with the entire circumference, enabling 360° inspection for pinholes, holidays, or defects in protective coatings.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATION
Material: Stainless steel (most common), sometimes beryllium bronze or phosphor bronze for special applications
Spring Diameter: Supplied in sizes to match pipe O.D.; common spring diameters range from 19mm upwards, suitable for pipe sizes from 80mm to over 1,600mm
Length: Cut to pipe circumference or custom as per requirement
Type: Full-circle (360°) spring for complete pipe inspection; half-circle (180°–190° arc) for areas with fittings, bends, or obstacles
Attachment: Designed for quick connection to the holiday detector’s wand/handle (often with couplings or spring connectors)
Typical Applications: External pipeline coating inspection; detection of pinholes, cracks, and holidays during quality control of pipe coatings
Compatibility: Suitable for most high-voltage holiday detectors from brands such as Tinker & Rasor, Elcometer, Caltech, Buckleys, etc.
Other Features: Durable, flexible, high-conductivity; the stainless steel construction provides longevity and corrosion resistance.
